Overlay Surface

Over time, surfaces become cracked and worn – and they start to look a little bit shabby. The great news is that you can breathe new life into your existing hard surface, and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune.

Our overlay surface dressing is a cost-effective solution that can be applied over your existing hard surface, such as concrete or pavers. Exceptionally durable and visually stunning, the flexible resin coats a range of beautiful aggregates which can be selected according to your preferences. We simply apply this as a new surface layer, so it’s a great way to refresh your old, tired and cracked surface whilst eliminating excavation costs, saving you time and money.

You will still get to enjoy all the benefits that a hard, porous surface can provide. The binder keeps the stone securely fixed, whilst small voids between the particles allow for water drainage. The result is a porous surface with no gaps or opportunities for trip hazards to occur.

Porous paving has many benefits:

  • Reducing surface run off
  • Improving the health of surrounding trees
  • Increasing your soft to hard landscaping ratio
  • Increasing aesthetic appeal

How long will it last?

StoneSet Resin comes with a 10-year guarantee; however, the resin technology is designed to last more than 25 years. Like with anything, some basic maintenance should be done every now and then. Sweeping away leaves/debris and occasionally pressure washing the surface will help to maintain the porosity and increase the longevity of the product.

Can you lay over cracks?

Yes, provided that the cracks do not affect the structural integrity of the surface. Whilst our specially formulated resin blend does provide some structural support thanks to its strong and flexible surface, it is important that the existing surface is relatively intact and capable of providing structural support. Cracked concrete, pavers, tiles and asphalt with minor cracks are all suitable for our overlay product.

The most common types of cracks, such as hairline cracks and minor surface cracks will not always affect structural integrity. Larger cracks that protrude from the surface can present a problem, because they will likely be reflected in the porous surface over time. This will reduce the longevity of the product, so in these cases we recommend that these areas be patched, filled or replaced before the overlay process begins.

Will it stay this shiny?

No. The top layer of the resin will weather over time, leaving you with a natural tone of either aggregate or recycled glass (depending on which option you chose). This is not an immediate process, so if you are undecided about gloss/matte finish you might like to wait and see how it goes.

If you are certain that you would like to maintain a glossy, wet look appearance into the future, then we recommend opting for a gloss coat. We can apply this either during the install or at a later date, the choice is up to you.

Is it easy to clean?

Yes, Stone Set Resin requires very little maintenance and can be cleaned with everyday materials. We recommend that you clean the surface with some detergent, a brush or pressure washer about 2 times per year. This will keep the surface looking great and remove debris that can potentially reduce the porosity, thus extending the lifespan of the product.

Can I drive on StoneSet Resin?

Yes, absolutely! Many of our customers have improved the appearance and functionality of their driveway by installing StoneSet, and it has even been used in commercial car parks. We can customise the mix, making it suitable for passenger vehicles as well as heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses.

The resin holds the aggregate/stones firmly in place, so there’s no need to worry about stones becoming loose due to regular vehicular traffic.

Overcoming a patchwork quilt

A cracked, undulating surface is unsightly and potentially dangerous. The good news is that these areas can be totally transformed with the help of StoneSet overlay, and the results speak for themselves.

StoneSet can be laid at a depth of just 12mm when a 3mm aggregate size is used. If using a 6mm aggregate, then it can be laid at a depth of 16mm. We mix the stone and resin onsite, which enables us to produce enough product to provide you with a seamless, even and smooth surface with no undulation.

Overlay is a great way to spruce up your landscaping. It is ideal for old, tired areas in need of improvement – and it can all be done quickly, easily and on a budget.

Providing that the surface below the overlay will adequately withstand the expected traffic, the StoneSet layer will follow suit. We provide a guarantee against loose stone, delaminating from the base and colour change. The surface will be smooth and slip resistant, making it suitable for sloping applications. We have many happy customers who can attest to the premium quality of our product.

Renovation of old tiled driveway

If your driveway is looking a little bit shabby and worse for wear, don’t despair! If the surface is good, you can get a great result from StoneSet overlay that will drastically increase the aesthetic appeal and functionality of your driveway – and it doesn’t need to be an expensive and laborious process.

The property in the picture below underwent a full renovation, with the 30-year-old driveway being a main priority. As you can see, the tiles were in good condition – making them perfect for the overlay. We can easily apply StoneSet over existing tiles or block paving, and the finished result is both hard-wearing and visually stunning.

Complete Transformation

This driveway underwent a complete transformation, and it is a great example of the versatility of StoneSet overlay. Whilst many driveways are made of concrete, this one had an existing blue metal surface that had been in place for several years. As you can see, it was already starting to show signs of deterioration – but the structure was good. By increasing the depth of lay of the StoneSet surface, we can allow for the lower quality substrate. This makes the job quick and easy, and the surface will stand up to many years of regular vehicular traffic whilst also looking great.

Your Design, your style

The Australian environment varies from region to region, but no matter where you live you can select a stone/colour to match. We have an extensive range of stones to choose from, enabling you to create the perfect hard-wearing finish over new or existing concrete, asphalt or block paving.

If you’re looking for something a little bit different, then we also offer a range of recycled coloured glass. The colour choice is endless, and we guarantee no colour change or fading.

There is even the option to incorporate your own designs or logo into the surface. This can be done to great effect, enabling to express your creative flair and achieve a truly unique result. All the materials used are environmentally friendly and have been sourced from leading quarries and recycling centres.

Resin is suitable for large areas such as courtyards, car parks, hospitals, CBD main streets, schools, private driveways, pool surrounds and patios. Not only will these areas be rejuvenated, they will also gain increased functionality from the natural drainage and non-slip properties of resin overlay.

Whether you live near the beach or the bush, you can choose to stand out or blend in with your surroundings. Our resin complements heritage, retro and modern design beautifully.

Minimal preparation

Think green! Resin overlay is an environmentally friendly way to rejuvenate your existing surface. There is no need to go to the trouble and expense of ripping up and constructing a new surface when you can simply use overlay. This means you use less material and produce less waste, which is good for your wallet and the environment.

Resin overlay can be quickly installed, as it only needs a curing time of 6 hours for pedestrian traffic and 24 hours for vehicular traffic. Once it has been mixed, it’s as simple as pouring it out and waiting for it to dry. You will be enjoying your new surface in no time at all.

The resin surface is naturally slip resistant, and the rating exceeds Australian regulations. The surface can be rated as high as class V (equivalent to R13), which means there is a very low risk of slipping. The surface is also smooth, so it is wheelchair and pushchair friendly.

When it’s so quick and easy to get a stunning, functional result from resin overlay, why would you consider anything else? If you’re keen to rejuvenate your tired old surface without spending a fortune, get in touch with Full Spec today. We look forward to assisting you!
